How Apple can get their PCs to sell

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

With the epic fail of MS Vista, Apple had the perfect chance to swoop in and get more users than ever before. They blew that chance. The best thing they could do is lower their ridiculously high prices for a piece of crap that can’t play games. The cheapest Mac on the market is the Mac mini, and at $600USD this thing is hardly affordable. The mini has the potential to get people to buy it, but it is still much too expensive. What they need to do is rip out the IR sensor, the built-in speaker, and reduce the price to about $400USD. They should also add a superdrive to it. They should do the same with their MacBooks. HP did it, and they a1ctually get their PCs to sell. Also, dump Justin Long for someone successful that actually use Macintosh, like Drew Carey, America’s sweetheart. Or a foreign guy, foreign people sell too.

Apple also needs more games. Mac-only games. Get back at MS for stealing your precious Halo, Apple. They need the ultimate Mac game to bring in more switchers.

Also, rethink your ad campaign. Geeky accountant vs. High School drop-out working at McDonald’s is kind of getting old. Try this: get Bill Gates (He does commercials now, right?) and put him up against Steve Jobs. Bill Gates is the richest person and the second most powerful person (behind Oprah Winfrey) in the world, and Steve Jobs is the coolest geek in the world. You know what? Forget that, get Oprah! People will do anything she says. Or even Al Gore.

I rest my case. Here’s a shout-out for you.

Mighty Mouse not so mighty?

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

A computer mouse is something that gets a lot of criticism from reviewers. Well guess what reviewers? SHUT UP. “Mighty Mouse not so mighty” is everywhere on the iMac reviews, and it is driving me nuts! For pete’s sake (to avoid possibly offense) PCMagazine, the mighty mouse comes with the iMac! If you don’t buy a computer for the mouse it comes with, then you are a dumbass. The mighty mouse is comfortable, ambidextrous, stylish, and innovative. A mouse is something you can buy, and you just spent at least $1200USD (£819.6EUR) on a new all-in-one with great components for that price, I’d assume you could afford a $10USD mouse as a replacement for the one you just got.

The most criticized part of the MM is that the trackball gets stuck. Here’s a tip, WASH YOUR HANDS! It helps, quite well actually. If it does get stuck, dab a little alcohol on it with a cotton swab. That almost always works, it works with scrollwheels, too.

By the way Dvorak, get with the times. If we didn’t move on, we’d be stuck with those damn floppy disks still. DisplayPort is the next generation.

I’m a PC, and I criticize tech, and the people who criticize it.

Persuasion to get a macintosh

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Despite being my undying love for MS Longhorn, I still deeply admire OS X. It handles everything that a person would need to surf the web, read e-mail, and listen to music. In a similar way that I FAQ’d Vista, I’m going to FAQ Leopard.

Mac lacks the games I love
Then cheat on those games for younger, hotter ones. It’s not like your married to them.

What if I need to run -Blank app-
There is almost always an alternative to every Windows app. Just google -blank app-. If you can’t live without that exact application, then you can install MS Windows through Boot Camp, Paralells desktop for mac, or VMware Fusion.

Macs are way more expensive than PCs
Yeah, maybe in the nineties. When you strip everything down into little bite-sized pieces, Macs are actually cheaper than Windows PCs are.

There are only six choices!
Then shut up and pick one. The ProBook mac is nice, the imac is, too.

It doesn’t support Windows Mobile devices!
Then get a new phone. iPhones are nice, but getting the right plan for it on at&t is difficult, I reccomend getting unlimited internet and IM, but I think internet is required with the iPhone. If you don’t like it, then I reccomend a Centro or Palm-based treo.

um….
If you can’t get a mac but you want something with an OS X touch, the get Ubuntu and install Mac4Lin.

Whatever happened to REAL MUSIC?

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Lately, I’ve noticed a rather large group of people have begun listening to the new “rock” sensations The Jonas Brothers, which just happens to be one of the biggest threats to real music nowadays. May it be my tastes in music? Yes. I honestly never had problem with them until they were considered a rock band. The Jonas Brothers are far from rock, maybe alternative pop-rock with a cult following. Doesn’t that sound familiar? Actual rock and roll is Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and stuff like that. What it refers to now is alternative rock. Personally, I believe that actual rock ended in the early eighties.

I’m going to try to contain myself and refrain from writing more on the topic.

BTW, Happy Birthday to the greatest cousin in the world.

Also happy birthday to:

Amy Poehler

B.B. King

and Nick Jonas. (No coincidence)

Vista and why it rocks.

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Many people have switched to Apple and Linux after the release of Windows Vista, which receives a hefty amount of complaints from people, but for what reasons? Let’s solve the alleged problems in FAQ form.

It’s expensive!

Look at it this way: In order to run OS X, you need to buy a new Macintosh, which is anywhere from $600USD to well over $27,000USD for a desktop. (Granted, people don’t normally go for servers or workstations, which the Mac Pro is both. However, if you want a server, don’t go with Apple as CentOS and other RPM linuxes are a better choice for serving.) If you want a Notebook, Apple is alright, but they are still more expensive Windows PC’s.

Mac/linux is ready out of the box!

No it isn’t, you still have to download and install a flash player, most likely FF3, an office suite, and other proprietary stuff. Linux just needs a flash player, which requires installing through the terminal. Good luck with that.

Vista has crappy legacy support.

OS X doesn’t have any at all.

Vista doesn’t run DOS!

Problem solved. Universally.

Vista is slow.

Turn off aero then.

I can’t install <blank>

Hah! Good luck with Linux.

Vista has bad hardare support.

Vista has better hardware support than OS X does, and doesn’t require proprietary hardware.

Um…..

If you don’t want Vista then go to PCLinuxOS or Fedora or Ubuntu, those are the best choices for a Windows migrator, and make sure to get GNOME if you’re new to Linux.
